Where to See the Sunrise and Sunset in Kennebunkport
Below are some of the best places to see the sunrise and sunset in Kennebunkport. While most of these destinations boast only one sun-facing view, Mount Agamenticus has both! Located just off Route 1 in York, visitors can park and hike up the mountain to enjoy sunrise views. Or, enjoy sunset views over the mountain from the comfort of your car!

Enjoy views of the morning sun with a cup of coffee in-hand when you stay in the Sunrise or Sea Glass Rooms. These rooms at our Inn both face the eastern sky over the Kennebunk Lower Village. It\’s a great way to begin each day of your trip!
Near the Inn
Kennebunkport’s beaches are some of the best places to watch the sunrise! Get in a morning walk as you head to Gooch’s Beach to watch the sunrise. This sandy beach is just one mile from the Inn, so it’s an easy walk. Or, hop in your car and head to Mother’s Beach. This beach is a little farther than Gooch’s, but the views are worth it!
A Short Drive
Nubble Lighthouse on York Beach is one of our favorite places to watch the sunrise near Kennebunkport. This Maine Coast attraction is about a 30-minute drive from the Inn, so be prepared to get up early. We recommend parking at Sohier Park and waiting for the sun to rise directly behind the lighthouse!
If you’re not an early riser, but still want to watch the sunrise, we recommend Cape Porpoise. Take the 10-minute drive from the Inn to the end of Pier Road. Here, you can watch the lobster boats head out for the day with the beautiful colors of the sky reflecting on the water.

At the Inn
Admittedly, our Inn has more great sunrise views than sunset-facing rooms. However, you can still enjoy colorful views from the Carriage House Suite and the Serenity Room. The Carriage House Suite has a private balcony, which is a great place to watch the sunset. Or, enjoy colorful views over the Inn’s backyard from the Serenity Room.
Near the Inn
It’s easy to walk to the best sunset views from the Inn. We recommend walking to the bridge over the Kennebunk River on Western Avenue. This is a great place to watch the sun sink over sailboats.
We believe that Ocean Avenue in Kennebunkport is the best place to watch the sunset in the area. Relax and watch the sunset from Colony Beach, Walker’s Point, and any of the benches situated along the oceanside cliffs.
At Dinner
There’s nothing more romantic than a sunset view during your dinner date. Head to Arundel Wharf Restaurant, Hurricane Restaurant, and Alisson’s Restaurant for waterfront views of the sunset! At Arundel\’s, enjoy the candy-painted sky on the deck right next to the Marina. Or, head to Hurricane for riverside dining with spectacular views. Alisson’s also offers outdoor riverside seating with beautiful views of the sunset over the water! However, there are none of these views from inside the restaurant.
Select a Sun-Facing Room at The Inn at English Meadows
As we mentioned above, our Inn has some spectacular places to see the sunrise and sunset in Kennebunkport. When you stay in one of our accommodations, you can enjoy a cup of coffee and rise with the morning sun or watch as the sun sinks into the sky.
We recommend a stay in the Sunrise Room for enchanting views each morning of your stay. This room faces the eastern sky, which allows the morning sun to pour through the bay windows. This room also features a queen-size bed and a private bathroom that includes a heated tile floor, full tub, and shower.
